An comic lecture that gradually turns into a conceptual magic show. After a short discussion of the history of gold mining in Colorado in terms of alchemy and electronic art, I disclose a great secret: video signals, if modulated in just the right way, can be transmuted into physical bars of gold. I explain and justify the methodology, then, with the participation of everyone in the audience, we collectively prove that it works.

Golden Opportunity was written as a love letter to local artistic solidarity in a time of diminishing resources, as well as to my friends Debora and Jason Bernagozzi of Signal Culture. I was a resident at Signal Culture in 2024 and had a transformative experience. Golden Opportunity was structured around footage I created in the Signal Culture studio using vintage analog devices, including the Dave Jones Raster Manipulator and MVIP, along with the suite of Signal Culture apps.
